Service Engineer – Special Purpose Machinery
Location: Bedfordshire (with extensive worldwide travel)
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum + travel expenses
We are assisting a leading manufacturer of special purpose machinery, who supply bespoke, high-value equipment to customers worldwide.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Service Engineer to join our team based in Biggleswade, with a strong focus on international customer support.
The Role
As a Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, and fault-finding of complex special purpose machines at customer sites across the globe.
This is a highly customer-facing role, requiring excellent technical capability combined with strong communication skills.
You should expect frequent worldwide travel, often working independently on customer sites, representing the company professionally at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation, commissioning, and acceptance of special purpose machinery at customer sites
- Fault diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance, both mechanical and electrical
- Providing on-site technical support and training to customers
- Acting as a key point of contact for customers during service visits
- Completing service reports and providing technical feedback to the engineering team
- Supporting factory-based testing and build activities when not travelling
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Service Engineer within special purpose machinery, automation, FMCG or similar complex equipment
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
- Demonstrable customer-facing experience, ideally in an international environment
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively worldwide, sometimes at short notice
- Confident communicator with a professional, solutions-focused approach
- Full UK driving licence
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- PLC fault-finding experience
- Background in bespoke or low-volume machinery
- Experience working independently overseas
