New job – IT Support Engineer – Reading – up to £42,000pa

Boring bit first, sorry! – You’ll need to be a UK / EU national and have full right to work in the UK. You will also need to be able to gain SC. This client is not a registered sponsor.

Most IT support jobs promise “a great team” and “career progression.” But in all honesty, so does everyone else for pretty much every single job out there.

Here’s what actually matters.

On Monday morning, someone will ring because they’ve forgotten their newly reset password because apparently, “Password1234” is a bit too easy to guess (who knew?!)

Five minutes later, someone else will insist the printer has “never worked.”

By lunch, you’ll have solved a problem that was blamed on the network, the server, Microsoft, and maybe a couple of foreign hackers…

…before discovering the monitor wasn’t turned on, or plugged in.

If that sounds like the sort of day you’d enjoy rather than endure, keep reading.

The role
You’ll be the person people are relieved to see. Not because you’re a miracle worker, but because you stay calm when everyone else has started flapping and screaming (think Steve Carrell, US version of The Office)

You’ll support users across Microsoft 365, Windows desktops, laptops, mobile devices and the usual mix of hardware and software. With a bit of WiFi & networking support thrown in for good measure.

Some issues you’ll fix remotely. Others will need you at the desk, asking the right questions before diving into solutions.

Every ticket is different. Some might take two minutes, others, more likely two hours.

You’ll know the difference, and will react accordingly.

You’ll probably enjoy this role if…
– You like solving problems more than blaming people.
– You can explain technical issues without making people feel stupid.
– You don’t stop at “it’s working now.” You want to know why it broke in the first place.
– You take pride in leaving things better than you found them.

What you’ll need:
– 5-6+ years solid experience is a non-negotiable.
– Experience supporting Windows environments – Good knowledge of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Exchange and basic networking knowledge.
– A methodical approach to troubleshooting.

And perhaps most importantly…
The ability to deal with frustrated users without becoming one yourself.

What you’ll get
A team that shares knowledge instead of hoarding it.
Managers who understand that good support takes time, not magic.
Training that helps you develop rather than simply tick compliance boxes.
A very good salary, pension, holiday allowance and the tools you need to do the job properly.

One last thing
The best IT support engineers rarely describe themselves as “rockstars.”
They’re the people colleagues quietly rely on.
If that sounds more like you than the person who talks the loudest in the room, we’d like to hear from you.
