Business Development Coordinator
Derby | £30,000 – £35,000 + Benefits | Hybrid Working
Are you organised, commercially minded and looking for an opportunity where you can build a genuine career rather than simply take another job?

We’re looking for a Business Development Coordinator to join an established engineering consultancy in Derby, supporting a busy Business Development team working on opportunities ranging from smaller consultancy projects through to major multimillion-pound programmes.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone in the early stages of their career who is bright, proactive and ambitious. You don’t necessarily need previous Business Development or rail industry experience – we’re more interested in finding someone who is switched on, highly organised, confident communicating with people and capable of taking ownership of their work.

You’ll be joining a team that can offer genuine development opportunities into areas including Business Development, Bid Management, Account Management, Project Management, Commercial Management and Marketing.

What will you be doing?
Around 75% of the position will focus on coordinating and managing business opportunities and pre-bid activity. You’ll be responsible for keeping track of multiple opportunities simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and helping the wider team put together high-quality submissions.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring customer and procurement portals for new opportunities
  • Coordinating pre-bid activities, submissions and deadlines
  • Maintaining accurate opportunity and pipeline information
  • Gathering information from different stakeholders across the business
  • Arranging and supporting bid governance meetings
  • Maintaining opportunity records, documentation and correspondence
  • Supporting the preparation of bids and tender submissions
  • Producing presentations for customer meetings and campaigns
  • Undertaking customer, competitor and market research
  • Supporting customer communications and work-winning activities
  • Assisting with marketing and communications activity
  • Identifying ways to continually improve BD and opportunity-management processes

You’ll potentially have several opportunities progressing at the same time, so being able to prioritise, stay organised and make sure nothing falls through the cracks will be essential.

Who are we looking for?
We’re deliberately keeping the background fairly open.

You could currently be working as a:
Bid Coordinator / Project Coordinator / Commercial Assistant / Sales Support Administrator / Business Administrator / Marketing Coordinator / Account Coordinator / Graduate Trainee

Or you might be a recent graduate looking for the right business to start your career with.

Experience within business development, bids, tenders, procurement, projects, sales, marketing or commercial support would certainly be beneficial – but it isn’t essential.
More importantly, we’re looking for someone who:

  • Is intelligent, curious and quick to learn
  • Has excellent organisation and attention to detail
  • Can confidently manage several priorities at once
  • Takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do
  • Is comfortable chasing information and speaking with different stakeholders
  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Is confident using Microsoft Office
  • Has a strong work ethic and takes pride in producing quality work
  • Wants to learn, progress and build a long-term career

What’s in it for you?
This isn’t intended to be a role where you remain a Business Development Coordinator indefinitely.

The business is looking for someone with the potential to develop and, depending on your strengths and interests, there are future career paths available across:
Business Development | Bid Management | Account Management | Project Management | Marketing & Communications | Commercial & Business Management

You’ll be supported by an experienced BD team and given opportunities to broaden your responsibilities as your knowledge and confidence develop.
The position offers hybrid working with three days in the Derby office and two from home, following an initial period where you’ll spend more time with the team while getting up to speed.

If you’re ambitious, organised and looking for an opportunity where your potential matters just as much as what’s already on your CV, we’d be very interested in hearing from you.
