Location: Watford
Salary: Up to £43k per annum (inc shift allowances) + Benefits
Shift Pattern: Double days – 6am-2pm & 2pm-10pm
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join a fast-paced manufacturing environment
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer with a strong background in preventative and reactive maintenance to support the smooth operation of production equipment and maximise plant uptime.
Working as part of the engineering team, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving a variety of automated production and packaging machinery while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and food quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities across production equipment.
- Respond promptly to machinery breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Complete maintenance records and documentation accurately using various systems where applicable.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and modification of new equipment.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety, and quality standards.
- Work closely with production teams to identify and resolve operational issues.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer, or similar role within a Biotech, FMCG, Food Manufacturing, Beverage Production, Packaging, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC, HND, Apprenticeship, or equivalent).
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working with conveyors, packaging machinery, filling lines, processing equipment, pumps, motors, sensors, and automated production systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Flexible approach to shifts and call-outs where required.
Desirable Skills
- Multi-skilled engineering experience (mechanical and electrical).
- PLC fault-finding experience.
- Experience within highly automated manufacturing environments.
- Food safety, HACCP, or GMP knowledge
